2 Samuel 21:1-3 (NIV)  1  During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the LORD. The LORD said, "It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death."  2  The king summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not a part of Israel but were survivors of the Amorites; the Israelites had sworn to [spare] them, but Saul in his zeal for Israel and Judah had tried to annihilate them.)  3  David asked the Gibeonites, "What shall I do for you? How shall I make amends so that you will bless the LORD's inheritance?"

There were some hard times during King David's reign. A three year drought was causing alot of lack and pain in the land, and the Lord told King David that this drought was a result of old King Saul and how he cut down the Gibeonites, whom Joshua had promised to preserve in the days of promised land take over.

It's important to understand that the earth itself responds to the sin of nations and rulers.  In America's prime, we had fewer weather calamities and there was a normal organic flow of earth, wind, sea. But now as national leaders find themselves fighting with Jehovah God and the Lord Jesus Christ, weather patterns are emerging everywhere in destruction. Flash fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanos activating, drought, fish dying, bacterial diseases, pandemics, bees dying off - it's all a result of national sin and God's blessing being removed because of that unrepentant sin in the land.  Amazingly, what is bound in Heaven is also bound in the earth, and if our national sins bind up the heavens from blessing, then the earth will also be bound and we will suffer.  This is truth, and this is fact! Look at the desert lands of nations, and then look at their national leaders and overt sinful actions and lifestyles against the Lord.

In the day of Noah, the sin of the land became so great that God dropped the water dome and opened up the floodwaters of the deep to flood the entire world.  The early literally responded to the horrendous sins of mankind by throwing mankind off of it.

In the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, the earth and sky responded to the sins of those cities by consuming them with unquenchable fire.

I have a friend who pastors in New Orleans, LA.  He always told me that it was impossible to get churches, pastors, and Christians to walk together in unity. There was always a stiff resistance to God's will in coming together as a body, a family, and a community to address the needs of the city.  My friend was at a meeting where a well known prophet spoke to him in public, and addressed New Orleans.  He told my pastor friend that God had said, "ENOUGH". A wall of water will come and cleanse the land because of the sinful resistance of the gate keepers, the pastors and leaders of the land.  Amazingly, less than 30 days later a wall of water came through New Orleans which would be the most devastational hurricane that America had ever experienced.  This hurricane was officially named "Katrina" which means purify or cleanse.  The earth responded to the sins of the leaders by throwing their system and their resistance off.  Many churches disappeared and never rebuilt. Many people left New Orleans and never came back.  Many homes and businesses would disappear.  Those who remained would rebuild with an absolute need to connect and work together with one another.

In this day we live in, the earth is shaking and quaking. My wife has an earthquake app on her iPhone and that thing goes off multiple times per day, signaling earthquakes over 5.0 somewhere in the world.  The earth is responding to the sins of the people and the united sins of nations under government direction.  As sin abounds in the earth, so shall the earth respond with events that we will consider catastrophic.

Matthew 24:7-8 (KJV) 7  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8  All these are the beginning of sorrows.

King David responded to the famine by making restitution for the sins of King Saul.  Once he satisfied the Gibeonites for the sins of murder against them, the rain began to fall and the drought was over.  The earth responded to an act of faith, restitution, and forgiveness.

What does this have to do with a COMPASS GUIDE student? Everything!
1. Understand that as you grow in capacity, God will use you to correct and make restitution for the sins of your forefathers, which will release a wave of supernatural and natural blessing upon your land, your fields, your crops, your family, and your business!  If you are used to correct the sinful behavior of a city, a state, a province, or a nation, then those blessings will flow to all the people of that territory.  You also personally have 8 territories of your personal life, as taught in Compass Guide.  As you begin to command repentance and focus upon those territories, you will see the blessing from Heaven come upon those territories and bring a bountiful harvest in your life.
2. Understand that in our world there is great sin, and it's abounding greater and greater every day.  If you have activated point #1 (above) in your life, you will be a bright shining example to the nations of how to get relief from the famines, earthquakes, and pestilences.  Not that they will all turn, but they will see and understand the message of God through your life and the blessing that comes upon you.
3. Understand that you MUST be where God wants you to be. It's going to be very dangerous trying to navigate in the dark with all of the natural hucking and bucking of the earth against the sins of nations. But if you are living in the secret place of the most high, Psalm 91 protection, then you will be right where God wants you - and you will walk in divine protection.  The earth will help you, not harm you.  There will be protection and blessing upon you rather than disdain and repelling between the earth and you.  You will bring the blessing instead of hastening the curse.  You will be friends with the earth rather than an enemy of God's creation.

As a final note, did you know that the U.S. Navy just announced in 2014 that they are NOW in control of the weather?  They had hoped to be in full control by 2020, but they have now achieved a new way to control weather, start rain and stop rain.  Why would our nations want to be in charge of the weather?  It's simple.  If we are going to overtly sin against the Lord as a nation, then we know what the consequences are going to be.  Drought and famine is coming.  But if we have hijacked control of the weather patterns, we can stop the consequences of our sins in the earth.  So we are kind of re-writing scripture and are thinking that we can sow without reaping. We can sin with no penalty.  However, the earth will not take kindly to man bringing it under his control, and greater trouble will arise as man seizes the weather patterns.  Eventually, the Bible declares that the earth will be consumed with fire.

2 Peter 3:10-13 (NIV) 10  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. 11  Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12  as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13  But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

Do not be afraid of the weather patterns, earthquakes, famines, floods, or pestilences.  Rather, understand that God has given you dominion in the earth, and understanding of sin's consequences.  We are to be like King David (the type and shadow of Jesus Christ) and bring remedy, healing, and restitution to the earth, the nations, and those whom have been greatly damaged by the sins of man.  And we bring this restitution all in the name of Jesus Christ, the high and exalted King of Heaven and earth!

Lastly, in our daily reading of Proverbs 19, verse 2 says:
Proverbs 19:2 (NIV) 2 It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way.

King Saul had zeal for the Lord but didn't use knowledge or wisdom. He didn't seek the face of the Lord, and therefore he violated God's covenant with the Gibeonites. Through his zeal he murdered them, and brought a famine on the land years later in the future.

Tomorrow's Reading:
20-May 2 Sam. 23-24, Matthew 9-10, Psalms 96-100, Proverbs 20
